The California Oral Health Equity Coalition (COHEC)—a grassroots campaign led by low-income BIPOC, Tribal, and other marginalized communities across the state to bring dental therapy to California—will host California Day, a free preconference activity ahead of the National Dental Therapy Conference taking place December 8 – 10 at the Double Tree Hotel in Sacramento. California Day will convene California stakeholders interested in learning about dental therapy.

California Day will cover the following topics:

Gaps in Oral Health Access in California
Introduction to Dental Therapy
Testimonials from Dental Therapists
Setting up Dental Therapy Education Programs
Lessons learned from other states that have enacted dental therapy legislation.

COHEC was founded and is directed by member organizations that represent California’s diverse communities, including Asian Resources, Inc., California Rural Indian Health Board, Dolores Huerta Foundation, Strategic Concepts in Organizing Policy Education (SCOPE), and Visión y Compromiso.

In addition to hosting California Day, COHEC is also a co-host of the National Dental Therapist Conference along with Community Catalyst and the American Dental Therapy Association. The Conference kicks off in the afternoon on December 8 with remarks by Dolores Huerta and continues through December 10. Details and registration for each event are available here.
