Sacramento County is celebrating National Volunteer Week

Sacramento County is celebrating National Volunteer Week by recognizing the volunteers who help make our community a better place. Across Sacramento County, volunteers support families and enhance residents’ well-being. From assisting older adults and supporting children and families to caring for animals and strengthening critical programs, volunteers make a lasting impact.

If you are interested in getting involved, there’s a wide range of opportunities. Take some time to learn more about the volunteer options and see what interests you:

• Animal Care Services: Volunteers can support shelter operations, assist with animal care, and help pets find loving homes. You can also help by fostering a pet, providing temporary homes for animals in need.

• Department of Child, Family and Adult Services (DCFAS): Volunteers play an important role in programs like Gifts from the Heart, supporting children, families and older adults through donation drives, special events and other service opportunities.
  • Volunteer opportunities are available on the DCFAS website.  
• Office of Emergency Services (OES): Sponsored by OES, Sacramento’s Medical Reserve Corps (SMRC) provides medical services during large events. SMRC is made up of licensed healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, mental health professionals, dentists, pharmacists, veterinarians, physical therapists and more. Community members without medical training, such as translators, sign language interpreters, social workers, administrators and public relations professionals, also play a vital role in SMRC.

• Sacramento International Airport: Sacramento International Airport’s Information Booths are staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers.
