Protect other from contracting diseases and other adverse effects of needle sticks

There are several ways to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused medications. Drug take back programs are the preferred method. Find a drop-off site near you.

Sharps Disposal

State law (H&SC ยง118286) makes it illegal to dispose of home-generated sharps waste (hypodermic needles, pen needles, intravenous needles, lancets, and other devices that are used to penetrate the skin for the delivery of medications) in the trash or recycling containers, and requires that all sharps waste be transported to a collection center in a sharps container approved by the local enforcement agency.

Dispose of your sharps through Sacramento County Waste Management and Recycling or Cal Recycle.
