Sacramento County Joins Operation Green Light for Veterans Initiative

County Governance, Operations, Policy
From Nov. 4 through Nov. 11, Sacramento County will illuminate the Administration Building at 700 H Street in green as part of the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Operation Green Light for Veterans campaign.
The initiative encourages counties, parishes and boroughs across the country to display green lights in support of veterans and their families.
The Board of Supervisors recognized the initiative by issuing a proclamation in support of Operation Green Light for Veterans.
“Operation Green Light is a simple but meaningful way to show our gratitude to the people who have served our country,” said David Villanueva, County Executive. “As we light the Administration Building green, the County joins communities nationwide in honoring veterans, reminding them that their service and sacrifices are valued.”
The campaign takes place during the week leading up to Veterans Day and is designed to highlight both appreciation for veterans and awareness of the resources available to them.
Sacramento County’s participation in Operation Green Light reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting veterans and their families. Through the Veterans Services Office (VSO), the County helps veterans and their loved ones access benefits they have earned through military service. The office provides assistance with disability compensation claims, veterans pensions, health care enrollment, survivors benefits, Aid and Attendance benefits, and the California College Tuition Fee Waiver Program.
Accredited Veterans Claims Representatives (VCR) also help veterans navigate eligibility requirements and advocate on their behalf throughout the claims process.
For Ethan Dye, a veteran and the Director of the Department of Human Assistance, that work carries personal meaning.
“As a veteran and leader of the department overseeing Veterans Services, I see firsthand this small team’s dedication to veterans and their families. In 2025, the office assisted 13,000 veterans, filed 4,435 new claims, and secured $11.5 million in retroactive payments and $9.5 million in recurring awards.
I’m proud of their ongoing commitment to those who served and the families who supported them.”
